We Collect Stories

At Balaknama, every story begins on the street — with children who live it, feel it, and see the world from a perspective few truly understand. We collect a diverse range of stories, from deeply personal case studies to updates on social and legal developments that affect the lives of street and working children.

With continuous interaction across 7 districts in North India, and through our close collaboration with over 10,000 members of Badhte Kadam (Stepping Forward) — a federation of street and working children — we gather raw, real stories straight from the ground. These narratives reflect the realities faced by children in their own voices. Before publishing, each story undergoes a thorough validation process through field visits to ensure accuracy and authenticity.

We Write

Our editorial team is made up of children who are, or have been, street-connected — making Balaknama a publication of the children, by the children, for the children. Every article is a result of deep reflection, dialogue, and collective effort.

Editorial meetings are held regularly, where children come together to brainstorm, discuss, and shape their ideas. Each issue of Balaknama is developed with care — a storyboard is prepared, and the content is refined through a collaborative process. This ensures every edition reflects the courage, clarity, and creativity of our young writers.

We Distribute

Once the stories are brought to life, Balaknama is distributed widely — reaching both the hearts and hands of people across India. Our newsletter is shared with:

Street and working children,
Our loyal readers and supporters,
NGOs, social workers, and civil society groups,
Government officials and policy influencers,
Markets, public events, workshops, and awareness drives.

We ensure that every opportunity to advocate for the rights and well-being of street children becomes a platform for distribution. Through this, Balaknama serves not just as a publication, but as a tool for social change, advocacy, and awareness.
